The arrangement of the very well organized E-Kuruvi jubilee celebration and the award presentation 
ceremony have been completed.?? There are several dignitaries including media personals, professionals, and the award recipients are expected to attend.?? The event will be held at the Scarborough Convention Center Hall on Friday, April 6th at 6.00pm.
As usual, people who work hard for the betterment of homeland people and express the pride of Tamils, as well as those who provide a substantial contribution to humanitarian projects, will be honored in this event.???? This year, two eminent humanitarian personnel from the homeland will be honored for their dedicated work.
OPEN-HEART SURGERIES FOR PEOPLE
Two open-heart surgeries using cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) machines with the latest technology, were successfully performed for the first time at the Jaffna Hospital.?? The CPB is a system that tentatively takes over the function of the heart and lungs during surgery by keeping the circulation of blood and oxygen in the patient???s body.?? The CPB is referred to as a heart-lung machine.
The first consultant cardiothoracic surgeon to Jaffna, Dr.?? SithamparanathanMugundan, was appointed over a year ago. He was engaged in the establishment of the operating theatre, Intensive Care Unit and obtaining equipment (CPB machine) necessary for surgery.?? The first surgeries were carried out successfully.?? It is a significant event in the growth of the Jaffna Hospital. It is a matter of pride that the Jaffna Hospital is now one of only four government hospitals where open-heart surgeries are being performed in Sri Lanka.
The patients can also be able to receive treatment at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital after the surgery.The expert of Jaffna Teaching Hospital and all around the world praised the successful heart surgery and subsequent surgeries of Dr. Mugundan.?? He changes the philosophy of ???only rich people can save their lives.????? It is noteworthy to emphasize that Dr. Mugundanis doing free heart surgery for the people of Jaffna.
The medical field is not only serving people but also a significant money-making endeavor.?? Dr. Mugundan did not consider medicine as a money-making business. Instead, he dedicated his work to save people lives.His devoted service to the homeland people and has saved hundreds of lives.?? Therefore, E-Kurivi has decided honor this eminent personality by giving an honorary award for his dedicated service to the humanity.
HEALING LIGHT THROUGH THEATRE
The other eminent personality who is going to receive the award at the Kuruvi Award ceremony is Dr. K. Chidambaranathan.?? He was the head of the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Jaffna, and one of the founders of the Jaffna University Cultural Association, and one of the most prominent personality in the field of Tamil arts and theater.
When people have left to adrift amidst several political and natural crises, they continue to live in fear and without any hope for the future.?? A group setting provides much-needed confidence to begin a new life and bring awareness. The Theatre Action Group has traveled to many towns and villages in the North-East over the past several years to alleviate these fears and held several interactive cultural events in those communities.
Dr. Sithamparanathan is the Director of the Animators Theatre.?? A group has origins in grassroots level campaigns in the early nineties to assist the Internally Displaced People from High-Security Zones in the North.?? Their initial efforts were guiding these people who were then new to living in welfare camps.
Dr. Sithamparanathan nurtured the Theatre Group through political plays such as ???Mann SumanthaMeniyar,??? (Soil Hauling Mortals),”Mayaaman,” (Mysterious dear) and other plays since the late eighties.?? The couple visited many towns and villages in North and East, such as Vavuniya, Muttur, Trincomalee, and Batticaloa, working with the children who are traumatized due to war. They did plays in the schools to make them laugh and forget the past. Workshops for adults were held several places, consisting of music, dance and meditation.
These dramas have been staged to promote political consciousness and freedom of expression.?? KulanthaiShanmugalingam and Dr. Sidhambaranathan are the twins of modern Tamil political dramas.It was a difficult task of bringing peace in the human minds from the past to the present day.?? Theater events are being conducted in the North and East through the Performing Committee.?? He is doing a great job to recover the people who suffer from three decades of war and the subsequent stress.He is a humanist activist who is continuing his work in the midst of various crises.
Tens of thousands of people have reduced their stress and depression through his dedicated work and consideration.?? It is noteworthy that he is carrying out the programs unselfishly.?? His dedicated work and the liberation of the pain of the people who were trapped in the war and the post-war period.He and his crew are continuing to travel to search for villages abandoned in the North and East.???? Through this, the cadres of the villagers have been found to cooperate to cater to the needs of the relevant parties.

Dr. K.
